Where did the rest of my studio go?
I guess it's now official. I live in Florida, just outside of Orlando to be precise. We're in the process of building a new house here so we have to rent for a little while. This means my dedicated home studio space has been relegated to a small corner of our bedroom. I'm always spouting the advantages of a minimalist approach and now I really get to practice what I preach.
I had to ask myself what is essential. Everything else is going into storage until the new digs (with a fantastic studio space!) are ready. I brought my 27" iMac, audio interface & 1 good mic. My Access Virus snow is a great synth for making many different kinds of sounds and it's tiny, so it made the cut. I chose my long overlooked Roland D-50 to use as a keyboard controller, replacing my huge and heavy 88 key A-80. My Deopfer A-100 modular and Kenton Pro-2000 midi to cv converter also made the trip because to be without a modular synth would be unbearable. I also have my Sony PCM-D50 field recorder for capturing sounds. Throw in a couple of guitars and a set of speakers (my trusty Tannoy Reveals) and that's it.
